Some background info:
Into the Woods is a Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim. If you don't know who that is, go away now. There's no place in a Sweeney recording for you ;D lmao.
The show follows a series of well-known fairytale characters who, each seeking their own dream, ventures into the woods, where their stories cross.
The characters:
The Baker: A poor baker who, along with his wife, wants nothing more than to have a child. When he learns that an evil witch cursed his family years before, preventing them from ever having children, he ventures into the woods to find four items that will break the spell. The items? A cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, hair as yellow as corn, and slippers as pure as gold (see if you can guess where this is going )
The Baker's Wife: The Baker's loving wife, who refuses to follow his instructions to remain home safe. She follows him into the woods to retreive the four items, helping in her own way.
Cinderella: A poor girl who wants nothing more than to go to the King's festival, and the accompanying ball. She heads into the woods to visit her mother's grave, seeking advice. She is given a ball gown with beautiful golden slippers, and heads to the ball...
Jack: Not the brightest lad, and a constant greivance to his mother. His best and only friend is Milky White, a pure white cow who has stopped giving milk. His mother sends him into the woods, to town, to sell the cow. He ends up trading it for five magic beans...
Little Red Riding Hood: An outgoing young girl on her way to visit her granny in the woods. Along the way she meets a very friendly wolf, and gets into all sorts of trouble. Her prized possession is a blood red cape...
The Witch: A horrid, ugly old witch who placed a curse upon the Baker's family in the past. She sends him into the woods to retreive four items that he believes will break the spell. She loves her beautiful garden and her daughter, Rapunzel...
Rapunzel: A strange girl who was taken from her parents when she was born by the Witch, as punishment for invading the Witch's garden. She has been locked in a tower with no doors since then, her only company being her "mother" the Witch and her long, yellow hair...
Cinderella's Prince: Eldest prince of the kingdom and next in line to the throne. He meets Cinderella briefly at the Ball and decides they must be married, chasing after her as she flees into the woods at midnight.
Rapunzel's Prince: Younger brother of Cinderella's prince, who spies Rapunzel in her tower one day and decides to rescue her. But at what cost?...
And of course,
The Narrator: The narrator of our story who pipes in from time to time.
There are more characters, of course, but these are the main ones. The others don't have much of a singing role. Anywho, if you guys are interested, I'm ordering the DVD and I have the soundtrack, so you can see/hear the show before we record
